Drying Winter winds...

Ladies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The winter is approaching fast and relentless!!!! Our poor tresses are at risk to breakage and dryness. How can we lower or even eliminate that risk? Moisture!!!!!! Moisture is soooo very essential during the winter months, not only for our hair but for our skin as well. Try not to blow dry your hair quite as often. The direct heat on the hair only worsens the dryness problem. Since it is getting chilly out we tend to have the heat on inside and this dries out the air, and thus the hair...get a great moisturizing daily hair lotion, or spray that you can use on a daily basis. When you're going to turn in for the night, sleep on a satin pillow case or with a silky scarf on your hair to minimize the friction from your pillowcase. And as hard as it may be, ease of the hot curlers and flat irons ( I know curls are cute ladies but its a worthwhile precaution) save the curling and flat ironing for a hot date or church!...Again, direct heat when your hair is prone to breakage is a recipe for disaster!!!!!

A Splittin Debate

Ladies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE!!!!!!!!! Please, please, please do NOT fall for the swindle that a product can fix, or reverse split ends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't say it enough. Once a split end has occurred, the hair has fractured and there is no going back from that. The only true remedy to a split end is to trim it off!!!!! Products that claim to "fix/eliminate" split ends are bending the truth. A lot of these products have silicones in them and these silicones are ingredients in the products that coat the hair strand. They may TEMPORARILY seal the strand and give the APPEARANCE of a quote unquote "healed" split end. But it's only temporary...truly...don't be taken for a fool. Silicones make the hair look shiny and smooth which isnt a bad thing...but its not healing anything....keep it cute ladies....but smart....

Did You Just Get Some Sun-Kissed Highlights???

Hey Girlies!!!!!
I don't know about you girls, but I got my sun-kissed highlights to warm up my face for the summer, and I'm sure so many of you girls out there have got them or are gonna get them too. Now highlights are cute,.....really cute, but they can very easily become BIG trouble. Especially for girls that chemically relax their hair or girls that have fragile tresses to begin with. Keeping the hair VERY well moistured is an absolute MUST!!!!!!!! Weekly treatments that boost your hair's moisture content is not just a "treat"ment its a MUST do. Deep conditioning the hair with a once a week oil treatment, coconut milk deep conditioner, olive oil treatments, avocado masks or any other moisture giving goodies will make your hair happy enough to not break off. Balancing protein and moisture treatments are also wonderful. Blow drying the hair excessively as well as using any kind of heat styling can also be very detrimental. Baby your hair after highlighting, especially if you have fragile hair or already chemically treated hair...we all want to look cute ladies, I KNOW, but do it right...making all your hair break off because of hair negligence isnt cute in the least.... Good Luck!!!!!!!!
Just a quick but UBER useful tip...garlic shampoo and conditioner are great ways to battle hair that sheds alarmingly and to stop excessive breakage.....you can usually find it in beuty supply stores....

A Summer Tip

Hey ladies!!!!!!!!
I have a small summer hair care tip for you...we all know that its finally hot, and we're at the heart of the summer with the sun beating down on you mercilessly. You feel the heat right? Hot, dry but still wonderful sunshine! Remember ladies as much as we love the sun, it can be harsh on your hair. It dries it out and can be quite damaging to already dry curly hair or fragile processed hair. A simple trick I do is, when putting sunblock on, smear a bit on your hair.... not only can it smooth any renegade flyaway's, but it helps to prevent sun damage... so don't forget to give your hair some of that banana boat protection!!!!

Your Shampoo

Hey Ladies!!!!!!!!!!
Today I wanted to drop a note about shampoo's. They are an extremely important part of our hair care routine because they're a part of your cleansing routine. I find though, that a lot of the shampoo's available to us have really strong detergents in them and make the hair squeaky clean which in turn makes the hair super fragile. It is necessary to cleanse the hair and scalp, but stripping away all moisture and natural oils is not beneficial at all! So it would be in your best interest to find a shampoo that will infuse moisture as well as lightly cleanse, especially for my relaxed and curly Girlies...Our hair is dry already! Another note that one should pay attention to is that your hair, like your skin has a pH. Using products that help your hair maintain its correct pH (of between 3-4.5) aids you in the quest for healthy strong hair. Good Luck!

Unbeweave-ably Important

Hey Chicas!!!!
Weaves tend to have a certain stigma attached to them...but in all honesty their a great means to change up your look, or enhance it without to much trouble. BUT, the problem i see is not getting weaves its in their maintenance. Ladies please!!!!! It peeves me to no end to see women with atrocious ratty weaves! First of all weaves can be used to also give ones hair a break from constant styling. It can be a good thing. But it can also damage your hair and scalp. Proper maintenance is key!!!!! When washing if all t he hair is not dried properly mold can develop, damaging the scalp and hair. Not washing at all only creates an ideal environment for bacterial growth. Moisturizing your own hair beneath the weave is also something the ladies need to keep in mind. Out of site out of mind will leave you with brittle, dry and breaking hair post-weave. Using heavy greases will only allow for gross build up in the scalp. Try coconut oil, or jojoba oil in the scalp and braided hair. They are both light oils that are maximally moisturizing. Weaves are definitely fun and allow youv ersatility with your look, but don't neglect your homegrown tresses beneath!!!

A Coconut Tidbit

Hey Girlies!!!!!
I received a question from one of my clients about a natural deep conditioner for her hair, and I figured why not share it for all to benefit. She recently had me give her a very short cut that is uber easy to care for during these wonderful summer months. Its a wash and go style, minimal fuss and really cute. But even with a short do ladies conditioning your hair regularly is a must!!!! Which she does religiously. By now I'm sure everyone has noticed that I have a love affair with coconut. She asked if coconut milk that can be purchased in the can is a good conditioner for your hair. It ABSOLUTELY is!!!!!! Coconut milk has a high fat content that nicely coats and conditions you hair and skin. It an inexpensive but highly effective addition to your hair routine....

Giving Your Curls The Squeeze

Hey there Ladies!!!!!
Another tidbit that could make a big difference in your hair routine is squeezing out excess water after washing as opposed to rubbing with a towel. Now you ladies out there with tight curls especially, NEVER rub a towel in hair. You're just asking for a bad hair day. Seriously. Not only does the towel break up the curls that your shower just formed but it is the Omega of frizz. I must repeat. NEVER rub a towel through your hair. Instead place the towel around your neck and shoulders and squeeze the water out. Don't wring the the hair. Its not a wash cloth. Just squeeze it out and then apply whatever product it is you use. Having a bit of drippiness isn't earth shattering in order to achieve a nice curl formation. I use my own formula..Cameo Oil Creme hair Quencher.. and let air dry. You'll have luscious curls in no time!

The Comb Out

Curly Girls!!!!!! Beware of combing out your hair!!!!! It is the truth when you read articles that tell you your hair is in a fragile state when wet. But, I am a firm believer in combing out your hair with a wide tooth comb when you're in the wet/conditioning step of your hair cleansing routine!!! Why? because when curly hair is dry, the curls are formed and set. Trying to comb it out will damage the hair because you would be forcibly breaking up the curls. ESPECIALLY if your curls are really tight! So curly girls, purchase your wide tooth shower comb and leave it handy for shower use only! Another thing, for the curly girls that wet their hair everyday (which is what I do) I find that combing out your hair everyday leaves you with more frizzies than luscious curls. I do a full comb out every third day. When I we on a non-comb out day i run my fingers through when wet and just squeeze excess water out.... try it out!!!!

Relaxed Gurls!!!!

Hey there my relaxed gurlies!!!!
I don't want to put anyone in the spotlight, but it is the truth that a lot of girls with relaxed hair don't wash and condition their hair as often as they should. But, even though they do this they still expect whole heartedly to grow long, strong hair. The very first rule to hair growth is having a CLEAN, HEALTHY scalp ladies!!!!!! I know that its a pain to have to get a wash and set every week. Its time consuming and expensive. But those drawbacks come with having processed hair!!!
We women use quite a lot of product in our hair and this causes build up, on the hair strands as well as the scalp. Having your hair in this condition inhibits the health and vitality of your tresses. So ladies, suck it up and head over to the Dominicans for that wash and set!!!!

The Joys of Coconut

Hey Girlies!!!!!
So today my tidbit is going to be about the miracles of coconut oil and coconut milk...Coconut oil is one of the best things that you can use for hair and scalp troubles. Aside from the wonderful fact that the oil is readily absorbed by your hair it has to also be hailed for its anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties which is a blessing for those with scalp issues. Coconut milk is also extremely beneficial for your tresses. It has an amazingly high fat and protein content....all wonderful things for hair. The oil can be used also for treatment of dandruff if used like an oil treatment, applying it directly to the scalp (for 30 minutes or so) or overnight. I also have to sing it's praises for adding softness, shine and it's prevention of hair loss. But ladies!!!!! Don't get bamboozled. When buying coconut oil look for VIRGIN, UNREFINED and/or ORGANIC coconut oil, to reap all the benefits I described you. You can find it all over also...I've bought it from Whole Foods. Whole Body, and in any one of the little Indian groceries on Murray Hill in the City. And of course the Internet...what can't you find on the Internet?! So...you love yourself so you feed yourself, you love your pets and you feed them too...I KNOW you ladies love your hair so feed it some all natural goodness!

Hair Tip For the Relaxed Chicas...

Relaxed Girls!!!!!!!! Something that you seriously should remember is that your hair has been processed and because of that it can so easily become damaged or dry, or damaged AND dry. You should live and die by moisture. Drying of already processed hair can so easily develop into a split end situation which is never cute. Not to mention incredibly dramatic when your stylist has to do more cutting than trimming ( you girls know what I mean!) Use moisture rich shampoo's AND conditioners. A hot oil treatment is a WONDERFUL thing! You can go old school with the PINK Hot Oil Treatment, or try jojoba oil which is ideal because its an oil that is very similar to the natural oil called sebum that our scalps produce. Coconut oil is also a very good choice as well, because it is absorbed by the hair and doesn't just coat it. Coconut oil is one of my favorites. Happy Moisturizing!!!!!!

My Curly Curls...

I don't know about anyone else, but a great friend of mine once told me that if you want to ask skincare advice, ask someone with beautiful skin....So Im going to post pics of my curls as I use my own products, for all to see, and to gain some credibility!!!!!

Hair Fix In A Pinch

Who hasn't had flyaways??!! Well if you stop to re-gloss your lips in the ladies room and realize those errant little hairs have freed themselves don't pout..unless its your cute face you're practicing!!! Grab your hand lotion and squeeze a bit, rub and apply to those flyaways!!!! The lotion will smooth them nicely back in place...so you can admire your faboo mug and keep it moving...

Curly Girls!!!!

Hey Curly Girls!!!!!!!!!
I haven't been on here in a while...life has been happening to me..lol....But anyhoo. I have endeavored to begin my own business!!!! I like to think I know a thing or two about hair, having gone through quite a journey of my own with my hair. I had relaxed hair for about 7 years and then I made a HUGE decision to chop off all the relaxed hair and grow out natural hair. I always strive to take great care of my hair...but having the type of hair that us brown girls have can be seriously labor intensive....when my curliness first was growing in, I experimented with a plethora of products trying to find THE ULTIMATE products. No such luck!!!!! There is one product that I would truly give blood for though, CANTU Shea Butter leave in conditioning repair cream...Ive sung its praises before, but I MUST emphasize it is a GREAT product for curly girls. But shampoo's and regular conditioners?? I was hard pressed to find something that didn't make my hair frizzy, dry, or tangled. Dryness, is definitely a curly girl's nightmare. It leads to tangles, frizz and a not cute nightmare. So I decided to try my hand a making my own conditioner and shampoo! My experiments are well under way and yielding wonderful results! I realized that we curly girls are victims of tangles and dryness. We need MOISTURE to be applied and locked in. We need natural oils and moisture drawing ingredients. And how do we know that those ingredients are in enough quantities in the products we use? We don't know!!!! So making the products myself seemed to be the most sensible thing to do! I'm in the trial stage...Ive been using my own product for 2 weeks now and have nicely hydrated, smooth curls. My trial stage is now extending to friends and family...we'll see if they like it!!!! Hopefully, I'll be rich and famous...lol
